Watch out late risers, This one’s for you!

As we all should know, Mr. Gadsby is becoming quite the collector of Scout memorabilia, spending many hours combing ebay for all things Scout-like.
Based on his last BOR, we learned that Brian N. is a trumpet player.  I asked if he could play the bugle, he said “yes”.  Mr. G. told him he’d get one for the Troop if he agreed to play.   Direct for Bendigo, Australia, here is our new T-22 addition…

Retro-Badges

Most of you are probably aware that this year marked the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouting program in America. Along with this year's anniversary is a re-introduction of some “classic” merit badges that were discontinued many years ago. Those badges have been made available for THIS YEAR ONLY. If any of our Scouts earn them, they can be placed on the merit badge sash and counted towards rank advancement.

I have just received word that I am now officially registered with the Gulf Ridge Council as

a “classic” merit badge counselor (no jokes, Mr. Dinsmore) for the Pathfinding merit badge. If there is an interest in earning this rare gem, I'm your man. I have attached the current official BSA requirements to earn it. I also have a

Cool Times & Warm Temps at Flaming Arrow

We're just back from a very successful trip to Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation for their Mini-Camp! 16 Scouts participated in merit badge classes with 12 earning completed badges and four more earning partials. Of the twelve, nine were newly minted Scouts who completed their first merit badge. To top it off, they earned Swimming, an Eagle-required badge that will get them well on their way to this coveted rank in years to come.

In addition, several of our new leaders s

pent their Saturday in a lake, earning the Paddle Craft Safety certification. This designation will facilitate canoe trips and other water-based programs in the future. A tip of the paddle to Steve Cohn, Juca Cohn, Dom Ginex and Steve Widoff. Thanks also to Joe Bejos, Matt McGowan and Wendy Widoff for their involvement in many areas throughout the weekend. Lastly, many, many thanks to Steve Widoff for handling all the logistics of getting us there.

Scoutmaster,
Jim Dinsmore

Yes, we had a blast. Thanks to my paddle buddy, Steve Cohn for keeping me safe. I am very proud of all of scouts especially all the first year scouts who did back to back weekends. There were some very nice comments on Jake C.’s enthusiasm and bravery on the climbing wall as he was hoisted by a venturing girl half his size.
