The ZOOmAir camp out was from 12/1 – 12/2. We went on a high ropes course at the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. There were huge zip lines and obstacles along the way. Some of the zip lines go over the lake in the center of the parking lot. Don’t worry if you don’t know all the safety involved with rope courses because there are instructors who go over all of it. All scouts were invited to attend. We camped out at Mullet Lake Park nearby. We saw some deer tracks on the way to the campsite. Once we got to the campsite we set up tug of war between the scouts and some of the adults. Later we set up a game of Durango. We played manhunt after we set up a campfire. The next day some of the scouts and adults were awoken by the air boats from some of the locals. The camp out is very exciting. The scouts loved the zip lines and most of the scouts enjoyed it a lot. It is fun camp out because not much s taught so you have a lot of free time to hang out and play some of the games set up. Images can be found in our Winter court of Honor presentation here. Txanton B – Historian                             The autumn skills instruction camp out was 11/9/12 to 11/11/12. It went very well. This was a camp out to help the first year scouts get some of their requirements signed off. There was a duct tape competition and some of the scouts made creative things like a duct tape shield or a duct tape mess kit. A lot of the first year scouts got some of the Second Class and First class requirements signed off. There was an orienteering course and a lashing class to help get these requirements. During some of the classes Mr. Ginex made a ‘hobo stove’ by making flaps on a tin can and lighting a fire under it. The zombie run was a huge success. There was a path with caution tape on the sides and zombies were hidden periodically and jumped out as you passed. There were also some obstacles like the barbed wire fence and the electric fence. Once you got to the end you had to carry a first aid kit back down the trail ( a half empty patrol box). Everybody enjoyed it, runners and zombies alike. It was one of the highlights of the trip. Then there was the campfire. We sang some songs and did some skits then we dispersed playing games similar to hide and seek. This camp out was at the Withalacochee state forest/river park. Santa Fe Canoe and Campout 2012                                             Santa Fe is our troops canoeing camp out. All scouts are invited and encouraged to come. The scouts that attended canoed 10 miles the first day, and about 8 miles the second day. The scouts went to two springs to swim in. The springs were one of the trips highlights. The water was very cold but the scenery was beautiful. The purpose of this camp out was to get the new scouts canoeing, to complete the canoeing merit badge, and to have a great time. Once you get to the campsite there is a wooden platform for you to jump off of into the clear water. It is a great camp out for scouts to attend.
Back to Brownsea 2013                                                    Last weekend was Back to Brownsea. Back to Brownsea is an opportunity for cub scouts looking for a troop to see what camping is like in our troop. It is also a recruiting camp out for us. Weblos from Packs 22, 25, and 53 attended. Only first class scouts and above can attend if they have gone to the latest ISLT or TLT. The reason scouts would want to attend is because you get service hours and you’ll probably have a great time. We had a leave no trace and a knot tying class for the Weblos. They also earned their Forester and Naturalists pins through classes. Most the Weblos I talked to on the campout said they were enjoying it. While we were setting up capture the flag some on the Weblos put their flag in a yellow jackets hive on accident. About six or seven weblos were stung repeatedly but everyone was okay besides some welts and itching. After this incident we didn’t do any of the games we ha planned. We had a great time at the campfire where we had skits, songs, and story’s. The next day we had our Scouter’s Own prayer and packed our Bags. The trip lasted from 11/2/12 to 11/4/12 at the Withalacoochee state forest/river park. Troop Historian – Txanton B. |
