Adult Leaders Training Schedule of Classes

SCOUTMASTER TRAINING PROGRAM Includes the equivalent of: Fast Start, This Is Scouting, Position Specific, Troop Committee and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. Must attend all 5 days for “Trained” certification.
The following must be completed prior to attendance at camp: Boy Scout Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Youth Protection (These may be done on line,  at camp, or DVD will be provided at camp. See the adult training instructor.)
If you complete the Scoutmaster Training package, your camp fee of $150 will be reimbursed.

In addition to the courses in the graph above, the following courses are being offered for adults at camp;  Youth Protection Training, Trek Safely, Climb on Safely, Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat, Leave No Trace, Troop Committee Training.  Dates and times of these have not been announced.

Come and enjoy the serene beauty of the Flying Eagle Preserve — Mc Gregor Smith Boy Scout Reservation in Citrus County.
The timing of this event is not a coincidence.  We have many webelos transitioning to our troop this time of year.  The Family Campout is a great way to meet those new scouts and their families.  It is also a great opportunity for those new scouts to learn new skills.

This property is adjacent to the Flying Eagle Preserve that together encompasses 16,334 acres of protected lands.  The property is heavily wooded with native vegetation and is composed of approximately 41 percent uplands and 59 percent wetlands and streams.  The eastern portion of the property is bordered by the Withlacoochee River for approximately three miles.

Depart Time/Place:
Meet at Hyde Park United Methodist parking lot, Saturday, March 3rd at 7:30 am; departure at 8am.

Campsites Location
Campsite H and I on the map. Approximately 50 people per site. Each site has its own restroom, electricity, and running water.
From the front gate, its 3 miles to the campsites. You can drive and park at the campsite.

Meals
Breakfast should be eaten prior to departure and you should also bring lunch as it will not be provided.
Saturday evening dinner will be provided by the Troop at 6:00PM in the Pavilion Area.
Sunday morning breakfast will be served at 7:00AM also inb the Pavilion Area.

Return Time/Place:
Returning to parking HPUMC lot on Sunday March 4th, between 12:00-1:00 PMm. Calls will be made as we approach, if needed.
Money should be provided for lunch on the way home.

Attire:
All Scouts to travel in Class B uniforms. Class A will be worn at flag ceremonies and Sunday morning interfaith worship.

What to bring:
Sunscreen, overnight camping gear including tent (if not provided by tent buddy),
Scout Handbook, and Return Lunch money.   See Troop website/scout resources for additional gear list suggestions.

If you haven’t heard, Mr. Dinsmore has been selected to serve on the planning committee for Council’s National Jamboree contingent in 2013. He’ll be serving with two other Scouts and one older youth to lead a troop of 36 Scouts to the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia in the summer of 2013. We’d love to see many of our Scouts attend. A flyer with basic information can be downloaded here.

We leave on July 12 and fly to Washington, D. C. for the weekend, then to West Virginia on Monday, July 15 for the first ever Jamboree at the new Summit Bechtel Reserve. Cost of the trip, which included transportation, food, lodging in DC and the Jamboree is $1,800. Admittedly, it’s not as economical as summer camp, but it’s a far greater experience. A series of payments due over the next year reduces the sting a bit. If you have any questions, please let me know. Note that slots in the contingent are reserved for Scouts. Several of our adult leaders have expressed interest in attending several days of the Jamboree as visitors and are planning a separate trip. If you’re interested, see Mr. Adams and Mr. Ginex.

As a past Troop 22 Scoutmaster, Mr. Ward has for nearly 30 years allowed Troop 22 special access to his property; an “Old Florida” tract of land beautifully situated under a canopy of live oak trees.   Highlights include capture the flag, lashing, orienteering, clay pigeon shotgun shooting (for boys scouts already transitioned), a large BBQ dinner Saturday night (hopefully with wild game) and Sunday breakfast.

 

Fees:

If you are a Webelos Scout or parent of a Webelos Scout there is no fee.
If you are a Boy Scout or parent of a Boy Scout in Troop 22 the fee is $15 per person.  This includes Sat. Dinner, Sun. breakfast and shotgun ammunition.

Location: Ward’s Ranch is located in the town of Lily, SW Hardee County, Florida
Approximately 80 miles, a 1.5-hour car ride from Tampa

• Take I-75 south from Tampa to Moccasin Wallow Road/County Road 6, which is at Exit 229.  This exit is approximately 27 miles from the Crosstown Expressway/I-75 intersection.
• Turn left or east onto Moccasin Wallow Road and go 5 miles to US 301.
• Turn right or south onto US 301 and go approximately 1 mile to County Road 675.
• Turn left or east onto CR 675 and go approximately 11 miles to SR 64.
• Turn left or east onto SR 64 and go approximately 18 miles to County Road 665.  See Soloman’s Castle sign at SR 64 and CR 665 intersection.  At this point you will have been in Hardee County for approximately 2 miles.  If you cross Horse Creek on SR 64 you will have gone approximately ½ mile beyond CR 665.
•Turn right or south onto CR 665 and go approximately 9.5 miles to a rather sharp easterly curve of CR 665.  At this curve Pine Level Rd. (a dirt road) begins in a southerly direction and Roberts Road (dirt) begins in a westerly direction.  Where these 3 roads intersect is the community of Lily.
• Turn sharp right (west) where CR 665 goes east, onto the dirt road called Roberts Road.   Do not go south on the other dirt road at this junction with is called Pine Level Road.  If you travel east further on CR 665 approximately ½ mile from this intersection, you will cross a concrete bridge going over Horse Creek and will have missed Roberts Road.  You should turn around and go back west and reorient yourself.
• Go west on Roberts Road for approximately 2.5 miles, until you reach a closed galvanized pipe gate in the road, which is the entryway into our pasture.  This gate should be unlocked.
After opening and closing this galvanized pipe gate, continue west along a pasture road, on the left side of which is a wire fence marking our south pasture boundary.  Part of this road is on a dike going through a marsh on each side of it.  After about ¾ of a mile on this dike road you will come to an oak hammock on the west side of the marsh, at which point you will turn right (north) and go through this oak hammock, for about ¼ of a mile; then you will cross a culverted canal and find the campsite within a few hundred yards further north in another oak hammock.

If once inside the pasture you are confused, blow your horn and someone will come to your rescue.
